Keep Your Home Safe This Winter

Avoid needless accidents this holiday season by following a few simple procedures to keep your home safe.

Christmas Tree: When purchasing an artificial tree, look for the label “Fire Resistant.” Although this label does not mean the tree won’t catch fire, it does indicate the tree will resist burning and should extinguish quickly. This is essential to avoiding any fires outside of the fireplace this season.

Don’t forget to shovel: As much of a nuisance as it is to go outside and shovel your lane way or stairs, it’s even more of a nuisance when it freezes over the next night. Make sure to keep it shovelled and salted to avoid any slips and injuries.

Check your heater: Have your heating system serviced professionally to make sure that it is clean, working properly and ventilated to the outside.

Smoke Detectors: With all the Christmas baking and flammable materials around, the chance of fire goes up in the holiday season. Make sure to test your fire alarms and check that everything is in tip-tip order.
