It’s Tulip Time!
The Ottawa Tulip Festival kicks off for another year today. On now until May 19, you’ll be able to have the opportunity to marvel at the beautiful colours throughout the city. In fact, the NCC reports that there are nearly 300,000 tulips in 60 different varieties in bloom. This is definitely something to see!
History
The Ottawa Tulip Festival is the biggest in the world and the city is proud to preserve the heritage of Canada’s relationship with Holland. The symbolic tulip – Ottawa’s official flower – was given as a gift in perpetuity to Canada for having provided safety to the Dutch Royal Family during the war.
The tulip remains a valuable symbol of friendship and of spring.
